My son, who has Bipolar Disorder, has been hospitalized at the state mental hospital for almost 8 weeks. We are in the process of applying for Medicaid. While I am not really worried about it covering the hospital stay (I have been told that it is a pretty sure thing), I have also applied for the "Disabled Child Living at Home". Since our income was too high, I never thought we could qualify for any form of Medicaid. But they did not ask for my income at all on this application. Our insurance no longer covers therapy so when he gets out of the hospital, we will be paying for all psychiatrist and therapy appointments.
My question is this: Has anyone been through this "Disabled Child Living at Home" process (sometimes called the Katie Beckett waiver)? How hard was it is get? How long did you have to wait? How long did it cover your child?
