My family is moving to Spokane very soon. My husband's job is transferring us there. I've been a stay at home mom for two year working part time at home and am looking to get back out in the workforce. I'm looking to find jobs but am not seeing much out there as an administrative assistant. I don't see many postings on Monster or Careerbuilder. Having a recruiter background - I'm shocked that companies aren't using those resources more. Where is a good place to find these jobs?

Also, I'm looking for a good daycare for my two year old son. We'll be living in Nine Mile Falls at first - just to get a little taste of living on the lake. ;o)

All recommendations will be greatly appreciated. I'm a little nervous about the move. Lived in Seattle for 3 years and Portland for 6 - LOVE the PNW!! Psyched about getting back to it!

Thanks ~

Which side of the lake will you be living on? There's a childcare/preschool on the Spokane County side called Future Generations and there's one on the Stevens County side called Sundance Child Care in the new plaza near Zip's. I don't have any personal experience with them so you might want to visit and talk to some parents who take their kids there. You might also be able to find some people who do child care in their homes, if you'd prefer a smaller group of kids.

Are you checking the craigslist job postings, too? You might want to check LaunchPad - INW - Spokane Area Professional Workshops, Networking Events and Business Development to learn about some of the local businesses and see who might be hiring. Welcome to the area!

Welcome to Spokane. You might try inquiring with the local hospitals for positions. The local economy leans heavily towards education, government and healthcare in Spokane.

We'll be on the Spokane side. I saw the Future Generations on a search and will definitely check them out. You are right about going in and visiting - I'll get the best feel once I've seen it.

Thank you so much for the info on jobs. I've been looking on Craigslist but have to be careful of the scams. And what's up with the job postings that ask you for $185 to apply? I've worked in the employment placement industry and we never charged the applicants.

My kids had to go to daycares in years past here, and I had several BAD experiences and I mean BAD. I won't name names...but BE VERY CAREFUL. That's all I can say and if at all possible.... stay at home with them... seriously.

The economy is VERy hard here right now...that's probably why you are not seeing alot of jobs. Our unemployment is at an all time high here and has been for a couple years now. Its just not the best scenario here right now.
