Minnehaha has been the focal point for the local Spokane climbing scene since at least the 70's. My Dad used to take me there before it was an official park in the late 70's.

Most of the climbing is bouldering type, there are some routes rated from 5.4 up to 5.11 or maybe even 5.12. The hiking is abundant as are the biking trails. They are not quite as laid out as nice as the Riverside trails, these are more for hardcore riders. Blaze your own path types I guess.

Neat little Damn right by this area that is absolutely stunning when they open it up during Spring runoff.
aplcr is that area you're talking about right off upriver dr sorta around where the scout camp is???
i'm cheap and don't want to spend the $30 to get the Discovery Pass so i'm look for other walking/hiking places besides riverside park.
it's p***es me off that i have to pay to walk on a trail. i know that we are in hard times but i pay taxes and don't think i should have to pay $10 a day to walk on a trail in riverside park!!!!!!!!!!! or $30 for the summer pass. if i was horseback riding or even dirt biking where i have some neg impact on the trail maybe a fee might be justified but just to walk i have to pay!!!! noway.

Yeah tha't it. Here's a crude map I made of the area. Red star is wher you park. Follow that yellow line straight back through the tree. You can go to the left or to the right and there are some trails. Also, for a longer trail go across the street and walk the Centennial Trail. It's all right along the river and goes to the Idaho border. This particular area is a great walk and very scenic. The purple squiggle is where the rock climbers do there thing. When you follow the yellow to the left on the map, there is a trail that leads up to the top of the large rock. There's only one place where you have to "climb" but I have taken my boys up it (7 and 10) for the past 4 years and even at 4 years old they had no problems. Just watch that the kids dont get to close to the edge. It's also a great place to watch the planes take off from felts field.
