Cheney to be more precise. I am going to be transferring to EWU. My gf has family so we will move in with them before getting an apartment(which is far cheaper than Seattle apartments it seems). She keeps telling me horror stories of ticks. I like to hike but I am nervous of hiking and having ticks fall from the trees. How bad is it really?

Also, my gf is starting her education(she just started going to CC). She plans on teaching so she wants to transfer to EWU after CC. I was looking online but I was trying to help her choose between SFCC and SCC. From the way it looks I am thinking SFCC is the better choice but I thought I would see what some locals thought.

There are ticks in the summer in the pine forests and grasslands around Cheney, as there probably are in similar areas near where you currently live (though you didn't say where). Take normal precautions and you'll be okay.

SFCC is the academic campus. SCC is aimed more at vocational training and skills development, though there is some overlapping.

SFCC is also more convenient to the freeway, and thus Cheney (15 miles west), than SCC.

Good luck with your move.

ya i second what yel posted; i'd go for sfcc over scc but scc is a bigger school, but for location sfcc is way better! for hiking the hiking trails are very well maintained around here so they are pretty much cleared so if you stay on the trails you won't be cutting through trees and brush which would increase your chance of getting ticks.....i hike all summer long and haven't had a problem but then again i stay on the trails....... good luck on your move

As a note for the town of Cheney, just realize it is a small town. A small college town. Outside of events at the college itself, the small town does not have much to offer for students. But that does not mean the town does not cater to the students, because they do. Cheney is a nice little town surrounded by countryside, and is fairly close to the hustle and bustle of downtown Spokane.

Good luck. The people above gave great educational information.

Yeah, I'm used to Seattle life whenever I want to do something interesting. Do any symphonies happen in Spokane? Ballets or good plays?

Also I sold my piano for the move... any piano store in Spokane?

Of course there are piano stores in Spokane, and Spokane has culture. They got a symphony and a large sports arena as well and exhibition center and convention center. There is a lot in Spokane. Don't forget it has a metro of 400,000. There is a lot there.

Compared to Seattle there is nothing in Spokane that resembles 'hustle and bustle'. B O R I N G.

this is so silly to compare spokane that has less then 200K people (includes spokane valley) to a city with.....what?......over a million????
however spokane has a lot of things going on......just go to the spokansman review newspaper web site and see what's listed.....there's a great deal of outdoor activies, and music, and arts, and clubs, and activies, going on i think it's only boring to boring people who don't make an effort......imho

There's is plenty to do in the Spokompton....what, don't you have ANY hobbies or personal interests. How is being in The Spo going to stop you from persuing the things you like doing.

Oh....and me personally, I do not give a rats a** about Opera or the Symphony.......or any of that artsy-f**tsy stuff for that matter. Maybe that is why I do not get CULTERED peoples gripe with The Spokanadelphia.
