We'll be moving to the Spokane area around the beginning of summer 2013. We are a little familiar w/ the area. My son will be too old for standard daycare & w/ me working during the summer, I'm hesitant to leave him in a not quite familiar city. Any activities or something he can do during my working hours around Spokane? We do have a few relatives in the city but they work daylight hours too. If I have to pay, that'd be alright.

Drop him at Riverfront Park with a few bucks and let him have at it.

Great advice David. I assume you are being sarcastic. Getting back to real solutions....I would look into the YMCA/YWCA Summer programs. There are three YMCA/YWCA locations in Spokane and I am sure one of them would be close to your home.

I completely agree with OGTSO. I work for the YMCA as a lifeguard, and we see YMCA camps all the time. They take their kids on fun field trips a lot. I don't have kids yet though, so I don't know of many other full summer options.

Great question! My family is also moving to Spokane this summer and was just about to post a question, "What is there for teens to do during the summer in Spokane." My daughter is 13 and if we were staying where we live right now, this summer she would be a counselor-in-training at a local environmental camp for little kids. Anyone know of anything similar to this idea? Thanks.

YMCA would be good, also some area middle schools offer free lunch and breakfast during part of the summer as well. Check the school near you, we sent our kids over there to eat from time to time. There are really nice public pools around town that you can get passes to, lots of sports camps and camps for just about everything you could imagine. How old is he?

There are camps in our area where she could either attend, or maybe work, although 13 is a little young for a job. Google Riverview Bible Camp for info if you wish. I've know some locals who work there and their satisfied that it hold quite a bit of activities for campers. We pass it whenever we head south on Hwy 20.

What does the YWCA stand for? Doesn't YMCA stand for Young Mens Club of America?
