Why did the Fred Meyer store close down their store on Francis? What did they replace Fred Meyer with?

There's still a Fred Meyer on the north side near Wandermere and one downtown near Freya & 2nd. Not sure if there's one in the valley too. That location on Francis was closed up quite a while ago -- I guess that wasn't a financially beneficial location for them.

There is indeed a Fred Meyer on the corner of Sprague and Sullivan, I was surprised there were two Fred Meyer's in North Spokane at one point although the Francis location didn't have a gas station.

I heard that the landlord for the property on Francis was demanding higher rent and Fred Meyer called their bluff and vacated the property. I bet the landlord feels pretty defeated now.
