I currently live in Seattle and am looking for a new (i.e. better) place to live. I would like some feedback on Spokane as a possible option.

I've read on some of the forums here that Spokane has a serious problem with bums and drug fiends, both of which are reasons for leaving Seattle. I would like to live in an area where being white, heterosexual, mentally stable, and moderately conservative isn't considered abnormal and somewhere where the Middle Class isn't considered a group that needs to be ethnically cleansed.

But enough about where I'm leaving, the reputation of that place speaks for itself. What are some of the positive things about living in Spokane? I'm interested in knowing about things like local activities, local government, ease of transportation, friendliness of the locals, the social scene &c.

Well it seems from poeple here that spokane is in major dissarray. I'm from miami so have not been there can't tell you what's wrong I can tell you though that if you live there you have the moutains to esvape too. Here you don't I got to the beach and there's immigrants foriegners weirdis everywhere,

So I think you can't discount those mountains. You prob have that in seattle, but your metro area in seattle is twice the size. Nomatter how bad it is in spokane

You can almost walk to city limits.

I found Spokies to be very outgoing, much more so than you'd find where you are now. The haute culture you can find in Seattle is very toned down to almost a point of non-existence in Spokane.

The worst traffic in Spokane occurs on N. Division. It will make you laugh, but after adjusting to it, it does become a PITA. There's buses there, but I have no idea what they accomplish.

If you don't need anything world class in your entertainment, what Spokane offers should suffice. Seattle is only 4 hours away by car.

Spokane itself IMO feels like a moderately liberal (but not insanely so) city, with a big working class. The suburbs are more conservative, and of course there's always Idaho.

I've hardly been in Spokane but went a few days ago.

It looks kinda old but was surprisingly clean, devoid of litter.

Tons of local stores versus big box on Sprague and near downtown.

They have massively more crime on the news than i hear of in Idaho right down the road.

Why, the buses keep the undesirables off the streets, of course. They're known locally as mobile low-security detention vehicles.

LOL---considering that where I am now has none at all---I'm sure it will suffice!

However, I have heard a lot of stories about the drug/bum problem in Spokane. Is it as big a problem as many say?

Around downtown it is a little worse than most cities its size or bigger, but it's not like the entire Spokane metro is swarming with druggies and bums.

Yes, Spokane, the 2nd largest city in Washington state..............yet they have NO north/south freeway/expressway. Well, the one they are working on MAY be done in another 20 years.

Division street accommodates most of the N/S traffic.........including Semis and all other commercial traffic that should be on a fricken freeway.
