Hi there. Long-time lurker moving to Spokane.

Just curious what the rental requirements are like? In New York you can get a 4 bedroom house in a good neighborhood for $1,000 a month and a handshake.

In California, you need a 100 page application, 4 months rent deposit, a credit score of 850+, 10 references, 5 professional references, 5 personal references, divulge your bank account numbers and balance, list family members, make 3 times your rent and so on, all for a ghetto apartment for the same price!

So what is required in Spokane? We found some crappy looking houses for $600-$900. Which would be fine for now. I know the crime rate is double than the national average. Hopefully it is not rape of Asian women or murder of non-affiliates. We are moving there for the greenbelt, by the way. We are just so in love with all the parks along the river. Yes, it is an odd thing. But we have never seen anything that pretty in America. And what appears to be semi-affordable housing(if you can call $600-$900 "affordable").

So what would be a list of things needed to move in to a unit? We have a pile of money, and good references over a period of 30 years. We do not have family, personal references, or credit, since that is only an American thing.

Thank you!

You only need to be amusing to get an apartment?

Is that even legal?

Your choice of words in the OP, I often find sarcasm amusing.

3x gross income is not unusual but you can always find places that won't require that. Generally first month's rent and deposit will move you in (Unlike Seattle where first and last is more the norm you won't run into that in Spokane). A good landlord can work around credit (especially if its no score as opposed to a bad score) as long as there are no evictions if you have income. Lots of cash and no steady income is a red flag for many landlords but you will always find some who won't have an issue.

Your mileage will also vary based on the area and rent range of the property.

Back in 2009, my landlord required first, last, and deposit, along with a credit and background check.

Thank you very much! Sounds like something more in the middle then compared with the two.

Yeah, we looked at Seattle, and just do not know why so many people are moving to that place...

I suppose if you are a gay computer programmer it would be paradise. No offense to anyone. Just saying. Does not seem to be a family city in Seattle. 2nd highest homosexual population in the US, and the largest amount of single-person households. Which is odd.

One thing though, we just found out the Spokane has one of America's highest incidents of police brutality. How is that possible in a city of 200,000 and 90% Caucasian? (again, do not mean anything by that)
