Hi all,

It's me again with my endless questions about the area. I am looking at a rental house in West Spokane and someone just pointed out to me that the little lines on Google maps are the railroad tracks. How busy/loud is your railroad? Do you think it will be a problem to live nearby/not actually seeing the railroad from the house.

Thank you!

When you live in the Spokane area, you will hear trains almost no matter where you are.

I think train tracks/noise are more worrisome if you are worried about resale down the road.

My own personal feeling is you can get use the noise and it becomes a fact of life. If you can't then think twice about moving near the tracks.

You'll want a fan on to drown out the noise when you're sleeping.

I swear that the little house I rented on Sunset Hill in Spokane was in the middle of a city experiencing riots on weekend nights, with the amount of train noise and police sirens.

Thank you for the insight! It has never crossed my mind that trains would be an issue! I guess it is a whole new world and there are so many unknowns, that I cannot possibly plan for until we get there. I am doing my best with the research (and your help, thank you!) to plan for a smooth transition, but it is much harder when you have children.

So, we have some thinking to do if we want to live this close to the railroad tracks then. Everything else in the house meets our needs - nice, safe neighborhood, close to work, good school, enough room to live comfortably and reasonable rent. I can see us living there for the next 2-3 years until we decide where and what to buy.
