Hello, I am trying to narrow down cities in the NW to relocate to. It seems that eastern Washington meets my weather preferences, and will be easier on my asthma and allergies than western WA.

I will be heading out in a couple weeks to visit, but won't have much time there. I thought I would ask anyone in the know what the arts scene is like in Spokane. Are there summer festivals, a local symphony, or artsy parts of town? Do any major concert tours stop in Spokane? If not, where is the nearest location for major concerts?

Also, are there any semi-pro sports teams there?

Thanks!

Check out The Pacific Northwest Inlander | News, Politics, Music, Calendar, Events in Spokane, Coeur d'Alene and the Inland Northwest and you can find lots of information on concerts, art festivals & shows, theater, etc. There are tons of activities available all year round. You'll want to visit Browne's addition where the MAC museum is located. Downtown has The Fox Theater and The Bing Crosby Theater for smaller performances as well as the INB Theater and the Spokane Arena that hosts concerts and sporting events.

I can't speak to the quality (which is going to be subjective for you anyway) - but Spokane does have a fairly extensive art scene for a city it's size, IMO.

There is a local symphony, the Spokane Symphony. There is also the Spokane Jazz Orchestra. There are a couple of performing arts companies including Modern Theater and the Spokane Civic Theatre. The three main venues for various arts in town are going to be the Fox Theater, the Bing Crosby Theater, and the Knitting Factory. I think the Modern Theater group has their own place as well.

Semi-pro sports include the Indians (baseball), the Empire (indoor football), and the Chiefs (hockey)... but collegiate sports are way more popular. Gonzaga, EWU, WSU, etc.

Listening to Shastakovich Symphony No. 5 right now.

Stalin, Stalin, Stalin. NOTHING like Trump.

This Third movement, particularly. There is suffering here, and remorse. And resignation.

The Spokane Symphony is great. I was at Beethoven and Brews a couple days ago.
