My thoughts:

Hey. Do yourself a favor. Drive south on Regal and park in the soccer complex lot. Turn off your smartphone. Get out and walk south to the fence that overlooks this new retail slurb. Breathe in the cooling wind. Again. Blue snow, hopeful horizon. Think of the bluebirds. Remember the sky. The clouds. The sunset. You are to see these effaced. Now think of neon: JCPenney. Albertsons/Safeway/Rosauers/Yokes/TraderJoes. Sears. Best Buy/Walmart/Costco/Target/Shopko. Red neon. Chock full of Chinese goods while poor working people of all races in South Carolina are unemployed and penniless and deprived of Starbucks. Whatever. Pathetic. But I digress. Build it, buy it, swallow it, love it.

But remember.

Oh, that's right, smoking green weeds is actually OK with lawmakers in the state of War-shing-ton!

I don't care about the weed, but what about the "war-shing-ton" statement? I am new here, just trying to educate myself on the state issues that I am probably missing.

It's a local Washington accent to add an 'r' where it doesn't belong in some words. It's more rare now (especially around Seattle) but older folks in rural areas still use it. My grandmother lived most of her life about 30-45 minutes east of Spokane and said "warsh" anytime she referred to washing dishes, washing machine, Washington, etc. There weren't a ton of words that the accent applied to so it wasn't really obvious like the Boston lack of an 'r' is.

Oh, cool! I have not noticed that. It's funny that people often tell me with a relief in their tone that I don't have a Jersey accent, lol when I am clearly a foreigner and have a Slavic accent (even though I lived in NJ for 10 years).

Rather like those who say Missura when refering to Missouri, there is no "A" in Missouri! Drives me nuts
