I’m thinking about retiring in Spokane. I love to walk, generally about five miles a day. I’m interested in South Hill or the Audubon Park Area. Are these good for walking? I prefer flat non hilly areas. I guess South Hill is hilly though. Also, don’t laugh, but when it’s snowy, can you snowshoe?

I walk 3.5 miles every day on the South Hill. It would be no problem to walk farther. I don’t know why you couldn’t snowshoe.

Was out walking and thought of this thread this am. I should mention that walking in winter can be a real b*tch because the snow in the residential streets gets packed down into a lovely layer of rough ice (not hard to drive on but awful to walk on) and not all homeowners keep their sidewalks clear and lots of sidewalks in the beautiful old neighborhoods are incredibly heaved from the gorgeous old trees lining the streets.
I usually hit my elliptical in winter but walking downtown might be an option or snowshoeing in Manito Park.

I think I’d love to snowshoe. I’m not much for treadmills etc. I’ve read about these things which attach to your shoes for walking in ice. I think their called Stableicers or something like that. I have no idea if they work though!

I have them (not that brand but another) and they are fine but the ice is very rutted in winter which makes it difficult to walk on even with yaxtrax. Still you do see runners sometimes, so YMMV.

I read somewhere that there is indoor walking downtown somewhere.
