Hi All,
Have been researching Couer D'alene and notice it seems to flow into Spokane and the ID/WA border is there...

WA has no income tax, but I believe ID does...

So are there any advantages/disadvantages to being on one side of the state line or the other?

{Note, this is cross posted in Idaho forum too. Hoping to catch opinions from both sides.}

Also consider snow up there... it is a cold tax.

The main advantage to being on the Washington side is mocking those ignorant redneck Idahoans.

Conversely, Idaho folks get to express their contempt for the socialist soy-boys in Washington.

It’s a win-win.

From the same source:

https://www.roadsnacks.net/white-trash-cities-in-idaho/

Sandpoint is number one and CDA is close behind.
Of course, this all hinges on whether or not you believe the source which is too trashy to know the difference between “pour” and “pore”.

Live in Spokane for no income tax, drive to Missoula once a month for no sales tax. Stop in CDA along the way for the quaint downtown & lake activities.

Are you self employed or own a business? If so... ID is your friend

if you have high wages and are seeking FIRE (Financial independence retire early) WA can be of benefit.

Once you are done earning (retired, unemployed, broke...) WA loses it's luster.

IMO, on paper WA is definitely better by most measures, especially the tax situation, and especially if you're doing well already financially. Services seem to be better. Most hate is directed towards the western half of the state, and many eastern WA'ians have a good opinion of and enjoy Idaho.

ID seems to care less about urban planning, and as soon as you cross the border, you'll see more people burning crap in their yards. It's where you want to go if you want to live up to being a "REAL AMERICAN", while living in "real America", the one with FREEDOM and little regulation. Most hate is directed towards those darn libruls in WA (including Spokane (), with all their gang and crime problems), while still ignoring the fact that there's a ton of traffic westbound into Spokane in the mornings.

I immensely enjoy both areas, and would live in either or both simultaneously should I ever have my way. It just seems like ID and its new culture/relatively new population is trying to caricaturize itself as something that I don't find particularly attractive, because while it does so it also comes off as incredibly phony. The WA side just seems to keep doing its thing.

There are some (ancient) great posts here by a guy named RetiredChef who did a great job of outlining why he chose WA over ID, and I recommend doing a search for those.

No, not self employed, but my job goes with with me. 100% telecommute. So I can go where I can afford. Hence the interest in no State Income Tax.

But I have to balance that with all the other factors, naturally. My pay is not that great, there is a tradeoff for being telecommute... which is they don't pay you a markup for areas with high cost of living... that's *your* problem so to speak.
