Why do we put up with these animals? (university, living)

I knew two pit bulls, both incredibly sweet dogs. Both lovingly raised from puppyhood by friends of mine. Both horse trainers incidentally. One friend came home to find her beloved older dog dead and in pieces and the house looking like a slaughter house. The other dog I had on a leash at a big horse show while the owner was showing. Two little boys walked by within 20 feet of us and this sweet dog flipped a switch and went after them. Thank god I was holding the leash and not my young daughter who had been five minutes earlier.
The boys did nothing at all to provoke the (almost) attack and I’ve never seen anything like it. Tail wagging while she snarled and lunged at them with teeth bared. The dog was eventually rehomed after it savaged a dog in a Portland park while its muzzle was off during a family photography session.
I was also privy to the aftermath of a pit attack on a small dog at a dog park. It was brutal.
I believe the pit breeds should be mandatorily spayed and neutered out of existence and of course, the vicious ones killed. And the dangerous breeds like Cane Corso, etc banned from society.
Anyone who loves dog should agree. There has never been a breed so abused and neglected. So completely warehoused in the shelters across this country. They are packed with unwanted pits. It’s terrible that anyone is still permitted to breed these poor animals.

Doberman Pinschers got their reputation form movies like They Only Kill Their Masters and from their jobs as police and military dogs. There was no epidemic of Dobermans killing small children or biting anyone except for burglars.


They looked scary but were never killer dogs. Huge difference.

Yes, you see lots of pits...in shelters where they’ve been surrendered and no one wants them. Look at any shelter, the majority of dogs there are pit bulls. Landlords, and even entire communities have banned them.

There are still plenty of Dobies, they are just not the current “trendy” dog. I have my 4th Dobie, all have been rescued from abusive owners, and none have been aggressive.

Just horrendous. The owners should be held accountable.
And anyone owning a pit should have to buy special liability insurance in order to own one.

You wouldn't believe the number of pits in Philadelphia where I live now. They are one of the most common breeds, because the shelters are full of them as we are probably one of the largest homes of dog fighting/illegal/shady dog breeding in the US and many are just discarded into the streets. A lot of people are really naive and defend the breed and dismiss the statistics. I'm usually leary of them around my dog, even though some of them seem playful and fine, you just never know what can trigger them. I've seen one clueless woman a few times who lets her un-neutered heavy (70-80lbs probably) pit off leash and definitely can't control him. I feel it's an accident just waiting to happen. These people mean well, but they are just SJW types who ignore facts and think their love/peace attitude is going to prevent their dog from being aggressive.



I agree with the comments on this board. There have been pits at the park I frequent in previous years who have attacked other dogs, bitten people (one on the face) or both at the same time. A friend of mine had her little 10lb dog bitten/attacked while both were on leash (pit boxer mix was being walked alone by an 8 yr old girl who couldn't hold it back). The dog had to go to the emergency room and the mother who's small/petite was bitten in the leg. Another friends wife was bitten by a pit at an enclosed dog park. In neither case did the owner take responsibility and fled or was never heard from.



My own gentle beagle was attacked by a pit mix, but suffered only minor injuries luckily, but it was frightening and luckily it was not a bigger dog, but was a pit mix and pinned my dog down on his back and bit him as he yelped. Even after breaking it up it continued to chase my dog who was traumatized. The ******* owner took offense to me calling his dog "aggressive" and tried to project it onto my little playful beagle who doesn't have an aggressive bone in his body. Did nothing to take accountability.


While there may be good ones, there's good reason apartments have rent bans/restrictions on certain breeds.

Why should we not be able to walk our dogs or let our kids walk our dogs because morons own these animals?

How about legislation to ban the breeding/force the neutering of all Pit bulls except for a few that can live in Zoos. There are plenty of other varieties of dog as well as possible mixes. They serve no real purpose and even though "beauty is in the eye of the beholder" they just aren't cute either.
