After much consideration, we've decided to rent for awhile while we see what the real estate market does. DH will be working in north Spokane and we'd like to find a place nearby. Are there any places to avoid north of Francis? We are completely unfamiliar with Spokane, so would appreciate any insights!

Thanks!

Personally I would stay west of Division at least until you get past the Y. Other than that though, most all neighborhoods are great up north.

Check out the Spokane crime map I've talked about before. I think it makes it pretty obvious where you don't want to live. :~) D

I'd be interested in seeing this crime map. IMO nearly all areas north of francis are worth considering. When you come to Spokane you can easily drive by the northside within 1 hour and very easily determine what will be a good fit for!

Hi, Jeff! Here's the crime map link:

It's south of Francis and along Division Street that probably stand out. Still waiting for one of the Valley. :~) D

Can you find somewhere to rent North of Francis for around $1000 - $1300...need at least three-four bedrooms???? Is this even possible or way out of line? I am not familiar with areas, but want to relocate to the Northern part of Spokane...husband will need to commute either to Airway heights or downtown SPokane (no more than 30 min commute preferred)...any suggestions or tips on renting for that amoutn (preferably NOT an apartment) Also, do homes in the north side typically have fenced in yards? THANKS!

If you can pay $1000 - 1300 in rent anywhere in Spokane, you'll be in a pretty nice neighborhood. Most of the typical rents are in the $600-800 range. A lot of the yards will be fenced, but that varies. You should check the rentals on Spokane's craigslist http://spokane.craigslist.org/ or Spokesman.com classifieds. There are several property management companies here too -- PM me if you'd like more info on some of those.

OMG...honestly, Spokane has no place that is too crime ridden to live. I don't have a car and havent for 5+ years. I have walked in every neighborhood in Spokane both day and night at all hours. The worst places in spokane are felony flats, downtown, and maybe ....nope cant think of any other place. Yes there are some places that are more favorable than others.
