We are moving from Alaska to Spokane Valley, we got an apartment on Appleway (Appleway Terrace Apartments) but I have read so many threads about Spokane being a dirty boring city and I have read bad things about the job market. I am just extremely nervous, we are moving somewhere I havent been to or seen in like 10 years. So what are your opinions about the area?

What's dirty and boring to a person is subjective. I didn't find Spokane to be either.

The job market is worse than average right now.

Even with its warts, I still loved it.

I think where your apartment is might be in a bit of an industrial/commercial area. We like it very much a bit further south. Still, it's only an apartment. You might end up really loving the Valley and you'll have plenty of time to find somewhere that suits you in case this one doesn't. We've spent the last 2 1/2 years investigating and visiting several times. Now we've nearly got our house bought and will be moving about a mile from you.
Aside from the people on this forum, I have several personal friends who say they've loved living in Spokane/Spokane Valley, They can't say enough good things about it. I recently caught up with an old school friend via Facebook who lived not 3 miles from our new house for 15 years. She had to move away to be with her elderly mother, but is hoping to move back because Spokane still feels like home to her even though they've been gone for 8 years. She says that my family is going to love it! I hope you will, too. Still, it is rather terrifying moving into a new place, huh? Best of luck and God bless!!! :~) D

Spokane valley is extreme "nowhere, USA" suburbia. Appleway/Sprague are long, wide and busy strips of low density businesses like car dealerships. While the city of Spokane proper, which possesses much more character and vibrancy, is only a short (10ish) minute drive from the valley. The valley is pretty ugly as well, despite the natural beauty that surrounds it.

We just moved here from the Portland/Vancouver area and have been pleasantly surprised. No matter what city you go to, there will always be bad and junky neighborhoods. We live in the Valley near Ponderosa Elementary and I think it's a nice area. I wouldn't say it's the best but it's definitely not bad or even close too it.
