None, because they will always be voted out by the IOC. America is widely reviled right now and they won't be liking us again anytime soon. And the Olympic bidding process is a surefire way to "humiliate" the USA. It's pretty pathetic - they can't do anything economically or militarily, so they resort to petty little stunts like what they pulled with Chicago for the 2016 bid.

That, and the IOC has strict laws against bribing and showing favoritism that is widely ignored outside bids from the USA. I wonder how many dollars, resorts, and women Brazil threw at the IOC members to make them vote for them? No sane person would vote for Rio based on the crime and infrastructure problems, AND evidence they really aren't ready for their 2014 World Cup that will also be held in Rio. The IOC members are like spoiled children and if you don't pamper them like Lula did with Rio and their bid, they won't hold it in their city.

So, yeah, no US city should bother running due to widespread anti-US sentiment and petty favoritism. Maybe a joint US-Canada bid, like Seattle-Vancouver.

This was brought up, and shot down, already in this thread. Countries can not split bids.

Wasn't there a big bribery scandal involving Salt Lake City getting the 2002 winter games?

Unfortunately, yes. Nonetheless, SLC seemed to do a very good job hosting the games.

If the tourism shortage lasts until 2024 I doubt either would be able to afford to host the Olympics much less win the chance to do so.

I doubt New Orleans would get the chance. The time window for a sympathy bid for Katrina has closed, and the IOC didn't like Atlanta lying about the average temperature (although really it takes little work to see that 80 in the summer in Atlanta is extremely optimistic) New Orleans' heat and humidity is just as bad if not worse. Plus the city has crime problems like Rio without being in a developing country thus gaining sympathy.
