The thing that comes up about an NHL franchise is that current owners can in some circumstances veto a move or expansion if they think it will impact their fanbase. You'd have to get someone who follows the NHL more to explain it, but there's a lot of thought the Canucks owners would keep a team from being located in Seattle.

It's actually a reddish brown, so I was closer to being right.

The PNW has a team in every major sport, what more do you need? If the Sonics were able to come up with the money for another arena, they would have never moved to OKC. The Grizzlies moved simply because the interest in the sport wasn't there... hence the terrible attendance. As for Portland not having an MLB/NFL team, good question. Probably due to the proximity to Seattle?

True, but Portland to Vancouver BC, is about a 300 mile radius, with 4 teams, that's it (one in each league).....
On the other hand, if you go 300 miles NW or NE of Atlanta, you have not only the Atlanta teams (all 4 of course), but the Nashville teams and the Charlotte teams......
I just wish one city out here would step up to the plate....Portland or Seattle getting an NHL team, Portland or Vancouver getting an MLB team, for example.
BTW: The Grizzles average attendance, in Vancouver, was actually higher, than the 8 years that the Grizzles have been in Memphis....

And yet they're about to have three MLS teams. Try sleeping at night with that on your mind.

MLS....
blunty (i should do a poll on this) not a major league. there isn't a big 5....
maybe in 20 to 30 years.
That doesn't mean that soccer is not a major sport in North America, but that's more on a participatory level.

Yes, it is a major league by definition. You can do a poll all you want but a definition is a definition. If the NHL is a major league, so is MLS. The MLS has more television contracts, the same attendance average, similar sponsorship revenue per game, and many more things that I could go on and on about.

A major league is the principle league in it's particular sport. Being that MLS is the top level professional league in it's sport makes it a major league.

WNBA is also a major league, NLL is a major league, PBA is a major league, etc.

In 20 to 30 years, the MLS will be far larger than the NHL and bigger than the NBA. Not only will it be way past being a major league at that point, it will be one of the best soccer leagues in the world.

Watch the college sports teams. Or support your local high school, even rec teams....more enjoyable, less pricey than the pros. Professional sports is losing its luster quickly in this country & for good reason: that is except if you have a fantasy team or gamble.

Having 3 MLS teams in the the Pacific Northwest is ok, but I'd be even more impressed if it was FIFA lol, then that would be truly major league.
