Outside of watching or participating in formal competitions, what's your favorite sport to play with friends?

American football and rugby are my favorite sports, but for fun I think nothing beats pickup basketball. You can play half court, or with less than five per team, and its still just as fun; and whether you suck or you used to be a serious player, you can still enjoy it. Other sports don't translate to the parks/playgrounds as well IMO.

I've been playing recreation hockey and soccer for years. Hockey is definitely my favorite followed closely by soccer (which is one hell of a workout).

Default handball

One-Wall handball. This is the worlds greatest sport to play. Pretty good to watch as well. It is a cardio, mental and hand-eye coordination test. All the benefits of boxing without the negative affects. I play with guys in their 60's who are still in great shape. There is something so pleasurable about smacking the ball with the hand. All we need to play is a $1 ball and the city's wall. Soemtimes I just roll up to a park and call next and the games begin.

I play recreational/pickup soccer every Saturday morning for about 2 1/2 hours and LOVE it! I've been doing it for over 10 years since graduating from college. It keeps me in great shape and is a lot of fun. Although lately, I"m getting old and picking up injuries...

I'll probably get made fun of for this but i've recently started playing in a kickball league that is quite a bit of fun.

I also like platform tennis in the winter. For those of you that dont know what that is:

Default handball finals

Here is handball at the highest level. Quickness, power, fitness, strategy, masterful hand eye coordination. Whenever the American players go to Europe they win. Too bad there is not a push behind this sport to make it go mainstream. Could get some fat little American porkers off the couch if it was a widely played game and not just in the NY inner city. Hopefully this sport makes the 2016 Olympics as countries like Ireland, England, Spain and Italy are pushing hard. Handball s the best expression of total athleticism I can know of.

Bowling. It's known as more of a fun, recreational activity. But to master it is one of the most difficult sports to do so.
