I've been going to the open for 20 years and every year they get more and more greedy. $19 to park $50 for a grounds pass and everyone packed in like sardines. The best deal is the week before the open meet the players up close watch the qualifying and no traffic and its free!
Maybe in the future I'll go watch the qualifying rounds. This will likely be my one and only US Open to see. Sorry to hear about the "sardine" conditions. I paid about $80 for the ticket - likely won't do that again.
I plan on using the metro to get to the venue - good idea? Hopefully I won't get my throat cut. I hear all kinds of stories about crime in NYC.
I used to go every year and then saw tickets jumped up over $20 per person for regular seat admission into Arthur Ashe back when I could buy the tickets in April/May (USTA member) and June (one week before the public for being an AMEX holder). This is the first time I'm not going in a while. They have become very greedy. I know its a once a year thing but its crazy how much everything is there now.

Probably the best seat is in your livingroom watching a big screen HDTV anyway. Beer is cheaper, air conditioning, bathroom steps away, and the recliner is much more comfortable anyway.

And they do a bag search no backpacks. They are trying to stop you from bringing in food or water or tanning lotion so you are forced to but theirs. Meanwhile there was no body search for weapons.
