I will say Gretzky (on the day of his 50th birthday).

Not who was the better athlete, I don't like to say it, but admittedly, it's probably Jordan.

But 60 NBA records for Jordan...no. Gretzky has 60 NHL records and the only modern pro athlete in North America, with statues of him in 2 major arenas....

Thoughts?

Gretzky is the only guy to score over 200 points in a season, and he did it 4 times. I believe both were the best ever at what they did, but Gretzky had more seperation from his piers imo.

Also, I added a poll, seems like the type of thread that should have one

Meant to add a poll, forgot to...thanks.
ESPN rated Jordan the best athlete ever, in the 1900's, 10 years ago, but rated Gretzky 4th....they should have been 1 and 2.

Gretzky was like Babe Ruth, a whole new level of talent.

If Wayne Gretzky had never scored a single goal, he would still be #1 all-time in points by 41.

But Gretzky obviously did score goals. He scored 1,016 in regular season and the playoffs, also more than anyone ever.

Gretzky. Over 200 points in a season 4 times, the man won 9 Hart Trophies. There are basketball players who have the talent to approach MJ, there will never be another Wayne Gretzky.

Granted that hockey is played differently these days and the scores are lower in general than in the 1980s. But Gretzky scored 92 goals in a season! These days that's more goals than most of the top scorers in the league have points in a season.

I don't know much about hockey, but I do know they called Gretzky "the Great One." That about says it all right there.

This is one of the most mind boggling statistics I've ever read. Even more unbelievable than Wilt's 100.
