Sports uniforms are drab compared to those of other countries. I'd spice it up and make things appealing if I were the commissioner. Therefore, I decided to share some ideas and see what kind of responses I get. Here's I had in had in mind.

1.)No teams share the same complimentary colors
I don't know what it is about red and blue, but heams have some fixation with them. Sometimes it's hard to tell them apart because their uniforms look similar. The Red Sox, Indians, Twins, Angels, Rangers, Nationals, Braves, Phillies, Cubs, and Cardinals all look alike for that reason. The same is true with the Giants, Bills, Texans, and Patriots, and Texans in football or the Sixers, Hawks, Wizards, Nets, Clippers, and Pistons in basketball.

2.)No more long baggy pants
Baseball players should wear those short knickers with either kneesocks or stirrups. Those long baggy pants Manny Ramirez wears need to go. I liked the old-school style shorts they wore in the NBA rather than the new gangster type that makes them look like they're packing something inside.

3.)Each baseball or basketball player decides between sleeveless and sleeved jerseys.
I'd allow everyone a choice whether or they wish to don the sleeveless jerseys like those of the Pirates, Rockies, and Reds or the regular ones. The players could be happy wearing either one all season long. Basketball players can don t-shirts underneath their jerseys like they do in college.

4.)Greater variation between home and away baseball uniforms
The home teams could all wear white jerseys, but not all visiting teams wear gray in baseball. They'd have other pastel colors like yellow, sky blue, taupe, beige, green-gray, salmon, ivory, etc. Each team could have pinstripes on either home or visiting uniforms.

5.)Each team has two solid-colored jerseys
I was thinking the primary and secondary team colors. The home teams could wear their secondary-colored jerseys while the visiting teams wore their primary colored-ones. No baseball teams competing could wear solid colors in the same game, and they could each wear them once a week or once a series. They could even have two pairs of solid-colored pants if they so desire.

6.)All sports teams wear white at home
That applies to all professional supports - including football, soccer, and hockey. Home teams can wear their light jerseys and pants during the beginning of the season, and visiting teams can wear dark pants and jerseys towards the end. Football, soccer, and hockey teams can even have pinstripes for their home jerseys if they so desire. Or they can have alternate jerseys with and without pinstripes. The only exceptions would be the Lakers yellow home jerseys and baseball teams donning secondary-colored jerseys on the holidays and weekends.

7.)Every franchise has home and away headgear
The home hat could be the lighter color while the away one could be darker. Or they could be the same but have different colored bills like those of the Atlanta Braves. Football teams could have home and away helmets as could hockey teams. The soccer teams could have home and away shorts if they wish.

8.)No team shares the same font as another
This rule applies in most sports, but every other baseball team has theirs in the same script. If it were up to me, they’d all have different fonts rather than commonplace script. They'd range from Papyrus, Century Gothic, Berlin Sans to Trebuchet, Old English, Roman, Magneto, and it'd be the same font for both uniforms like in every other sport. Every team should have its own distinctive font.

9.)Every franchise has primary and secondary logos
The primary ones for baseball could be stitched on the on the outer sleeves like in NFL while the secondary ones can be embroidered above their last names on the backs of their jerseys like NBA teams. This I'd enforce across the board in all sports. Basketball and soccer teams could have their primary logos on their outer pant legs.

10.)No team has solid-colored socks
There'd be spontaneous designs on the teams’ socks. Including these would be horizontal stripes, vertical stripes, plaid, argyle, spider webs, octagons, stars, checkers, etc. The only exceptions would be the Boston Red Sox and Chicago White Sox. The Red Sox would wear solid red ones while the White Sox wore the solid white ones. My feeling is every sports franchise should have their own distinctive design per sport.

11.)Every team has either city or team nicknames on jerseys
I know this sounds like a no-brainer, but they don't do that in professional football. I'd enforce even there and ensure the letters were big enough for folks to see like in other sports. My idea is to have the city name for the visitor jerseys and the team nickname for the home jerseys.

12.)All teams have player last names on the backs of jerseys
There are some sports franchises like the Yankees, Red Sox, Cubs, and Giants that don't have these. All this would change if I were commissioner of baseball. They have last names in every other sport; therefore, I see no reason why they can't do that in baseball.

13.)Baseball players wear adjustable caps
That means they should look like the regular ones but have changeable velcro straps in the back. They could have the team nickname on the outer strap and the league logo above that horseshoe-shaped keyhole in the back.

14.)Each franchise is alloted two colors
There are some teams like the Oklahoma City Thunder that deem it necessary to have five or six colors when all they need is only for two. The only exceptions I'd make for tertiary colors would be either for gold and silver or for pastel colors of visiting baseball teams. Other than that, each team should have only two. Then there are other franchises like the Indianapolis Colts that have only one solid color and white. I'd ensure they had a secondary color along with the dominate ones. Two colors and white are excellent ways to discern franchise uniforms.

So nobody has an opinion on these ideas, huh? I can share a matrix I've comprised of uniform colors for each league if anyone is interested.

Dont think you can tell teams to change their colours, its their teams identity. That is at least why they have two sets in Football (soccer)

By knickers do you mean them porno shorts ? The really short ones ?

Solid jerseys would be boring IMHO

You did put alot of thought into it though =)

Just dont like the idea o fhaving to have the city or nickname on jerseys either.

I meant the short knee breeches in baseball like they wore in the earlier 20th century all the way up to the 70's. As far as colors, that's the whole point. Each team can have its own identity with its own distinctive colors and design. Solid-colored baseball jerseys are fun once in awhile. As for the football/soccer team, they can have the city and nickname up at the top. I don't like the way they have logos for large corporations on soccer jerseys. That much is overkill.
