I seriously started contemplating this after watching her win the 5th Wimbleton title of her career. No, she doesnt have the most slams, and she's not likely to come near Margaret Court's mark of 24 especially now that she's on the wrong side of 30, though I do believe she'll end up in the ballpark of 16-18 slams. But how does she compare to the Navratilova's, Graf's, Evert's in women's tennis? I don't think Serena will match those women in term of career slams and overall titles, but I'm speaking mainly from an ability standpoint.

the williams sisters were fortunate to have arrived during a particulary weak era for womens tennis

i would not put either of them in the same league as navratilova or graf , i never saw chris everet in her prime

If the Williams sisters are pretty, inside and outside, can you imagine how much more popular they will be?

The yelling at the line judge, the EXCUSES when they lose and not giving credits to their oponents, are just a huge factor for people not cheering for them.

This is why I cannot stand the sisters, have a little respect for yourself and others. I would love to be a fan of theirs but when they act like babies and poor sports then who needs ya! It's not everyday you have a talent like the Williams sisters and it would be nice to cheer them on and root for them but instead they make you hate them because they are always acting like jags.

Can you imagine how much more popular it would be if Andy Roddick won 14 Grand Slams and his brother/sister also won few Grand Slams.

Ok, now that we've established that Serena's personality isnt especially appealing, can we discuss ABILITY? Martina or Graf against Serena, lets assume each is at their best. Who comes out on top?

i have nothing against the williams sisters from a personality POV , you would not expect them to be english roses and they bring something very different to the sport

i still dont think they are up there with the all time greats however

Can you imagine if Sharapova has a sister who also have (just) a few Grand Slam titles? Can you imagine how famous they would be compare to the Williams, despite the the Williams sisters have over 20 Grand Slams combined.

This is why I NEVER cheered for them. I've felt that the sisters, especially Serena, have gotten free passes from the press and the officials because of their talent for behavior that is pretty abhorrent. Many people will remember Serena for all her titles but in my mind the the moment I'll always remember is her meltdown in the US Open where she verbally berated and threatened officials then showed very little remorse for doing so. A very classless player who benefited from plowing through a lot of garbage players. Her movement is overrated, her defense is second class, she's pretty much a power player who can rely on out muscling physically inferior players. For what it's worth I think she actually underachieved throughout her career considering how abysmal the women's game has been over the past decade.

Well Sharapova's not a petulant whiny classless poor sport so the fame would be well deserved.
