He skipped a lot of tournaments that year after losing to Soderling at the French (including Wimbledon where he was the defending champ). That was a lot of points to defend and consequently he dropped in the rankings.

The stats don't lie though if he gets number 2 this week, he would have been number 2 twice in his career. And in this era with these players competing, that surely makes him a world class athlete!

It's just an indication that he is behind Djokovic, Nadal and Federer, since all three of them have been number 1 on and off, exclusively for the past.....8 or 9 years.

You physically can't give Murray any credit can you. He's a brilliant tennis player, I bet you were one of the people saying he would never win a slam .................. you were weren't you!

Yeah, I did.
But, then, he got lucky.

So much for Djokovic-Murray being the "premiere rivalry in men's tennis." Federer and Nadal sold out the Indian Wells Tennis Garden for a Thursday night Quarterfinal match and had overflow seating in the thousands outside of the stadium. Even Andre Agassi made a trip over from Vegas to see the match.
Do you think Andre Agassi would ever make a special appearance to see Djokovic-Murray in any match? This was just a Quartefinal! Thursday was evidence of what tennis fans really want to see. And it ain't Novak and Andy.

I meant until Nadal got back to fitness, looks like he has. It is a sport, there can be more than one rivalry. Of course Roger and Rafa will always draw people in they are two of the greatest to ever pick up a racket! Celtic v Rangers is a huge rivalry, but so is Boca Juniors v River Plate ................. as is Borrusia Dortmund v Schale ................... and the list goes on.

What's disappointing is that the so called top 4, Andy Murray, who's supposed do be at his peak, couldn't even make it to the semi, being beaten by Del Potro. Com'on now, hard court is supposed to be Murray's thing as it is the ONLY place where he won a grand slam, as oppose to the other top 4 where they won in other courts.
