Hello all! I have applied to bleacher report around four or five times, only to be rejected EVERY time. It is frustrating to me, but more than that, I am disappointed in which bleacher report has gone about this application.
First off, I hate how they say they will only accept, at the most, 10% of the applications per month. If 50% of your applications meet your standards, then you let them in, but if none of the applications in a given month are any good, then nobody gets in. It shows that bleacher report doesn't have any real standards, they just have set number of applicants allowed in to show they are legitimate. I beg to differ.
Second, I hate the rejection letter they give out. Absolutely nothing personal about it, the rejected writer has no clue what he got rejected for, and they don't even provide an email for you to ask. Great. And when I did write finally find a way for some feedback on my best piece (a family member who basically reads things for a living said it was great), it was just a bunch of generic stuff you see on bleacher report everyday like how I need to focus on one tennis player instead of three. The piece was talking about the future of American tennis, but I guess that only applies to one player. On another piece submitted, I wrote an analysis of how Sharapova used to play against S. Williams, and how she plays now and analyzes the difference, something rarely seen on bleacher report today, only to get a rejection in a single day.
Look, if I do not have the experience you want, or am not in the "target age" for your writing "jobs" let me know, but don't have me sending you applications only to have them thrown right back at me. But, I think almost every one of my pieces submitted has been just as good, if not better than 50-75% of what is on the site, and AT LEAST warranted a personal response to how I can get it past the ridiculous writing "standards" at bleacher report.
Is anyone else having these issues? Do you all agree or disagree with my assessment?

Welcome to big boy land. This is a pretty standard rejection response across all fields.

You know Toxic Toast if it was an ESPN.com, SI.com, etc. I would totally not expect a personal response, but when it's bleacher report, which >50% of the time has low-quality articles, articles that a middler schooler could write, but yet won't give me an adequate answer to my extremely thought-out article, it is going to **** me off. Do you think they have earned the right of just rejecting people based on their body of work? I certainly do not.

Based on your post here, I'd reject your application based on your writing style (use of pronouns, sentence structure, etc).

Just an honest opinion.
I totally respect your opinion. If you don't like my writing style, so be it, I can respect and understand that. I can't stand the writing style of the book "Their Eyes Were Watching God" (I have a hard time believing people really talked that way back then, and in any case, that is not what I feel is proper writing). What I don't like is the way they went about rejecting me, and the way they conduct themselves around there.
