They met three times:

Nadal won French Open, however....

Djokovic beat Nadal on Clay at Monte Carlo, but......

Nadal beat Djokovic on Hard Court at Montreal.

It's going to be interesting moving forward from here for these two.

And Nadal hit Djokovic in the face and Djokovic was mad.

There is no love lost between these 2 guys.
Joker's old man's comments probably helped inflame the situation as well.
They are also competing for the biggest prizes, so they can never be mates.
The rivalry has been very intense since 2010-11, as you probably know anyway. They have competed in 5 Grand Slam finals, and numerous Major Semi-finals.
Not sure if it is the most interesting rivalry of the last year, probably that would go to Djokovic-Murray.
However, 36 Meetings has now eclipsed the McEnroe-Lendl number from the 80's, and it's not game over for a few years yet!

By the way, anyone know if Joker started crying between games? lol

I'm really, really hoping Nadal and Murray play in the semifinals in New York in early September and the winner then plays Djokovic in the final.

Of course you didn't. No one with a brain would say such a thing.
