An interesting article about collecting sports cards- reminds me of my youth- I dont collect cards anymore but some people my age still do--seems like an addiction to some though (the guy dipping into his rent money to buy cards-for example).
Card collecting is not a gamble, collect your favorite team or player.. no biggie. But case buying to flip is a gamble. Many card investors ( I will call them investors not collectors) do buy cases of cards in hopes of hitting that high end card that they can immediately flip on eBay for a huge profit. Even still, without the BIG BIG Hit, they still flip the cards on ebay in hopes of profitting or at least breaking even so they can buy another case. Its a ton of work and for very little profit overall. Sure they may make a killing off of one case but if they only break even on another then that really evens things out.. not sure its worth it..
