And as someone else pointed out, one oddity here in the US is how big so many of the University stadiums are for college football. Here is the University of Nebraska's Memorial Stadium, which holds 92,000 people- and is completely full to capacity for every game: http://www.huskers.com/fls/100/site_...?DB_OEM_ID=100

To put that into perspective for Europeans, 92,000 is 5% of the population of the entire state of Nebraska, which is as large as France. It would be the equivalent of a stadium in France with three million people in the seats six times a year, every year, decade after decade. Average ticket prices are over $100, there are still a few cheap seats available for the next game at $75.

A truly impressing number, but it's quite impossible to create a stadium for 3 million people. And also it's impossible to get the whole 'state', in this case France, behind one team. In France there's 10,000 teams competing for those 3 million spectators. Already in Paris there's over 100 teams that get spectators every weekend. You have to remember that the sports culture is very different in Europe to the US.
Sochaux in the French league has a population of 4200, and the average attendance this season is 12,310, so impressing figures both ways.
Remember - atmosphere makes a stadium and in that department Europe wins hands down.
which american stadiums have you visited?
