Cilic has had a really fine year in 2014; he's had the misfortune of running into Djokovic relatively early at Roland Garros (3R) and Wimbledon (QF) but has given the #1 ranked player fairly tough matches in those two Slam tournaments. I expect Cilic to give whomever he plays in the U.S. Open semifinals a tussle.
Federer obviously should be considered the favorite against Monfils, but if Monfils plays like he has throughout this tournament, he definitely could knock Federer off. I do think Federer wins, but in a closer-than-expected match.
In the women's semifinals, obviously Serena is the favorite in her match, but Makarova has played very well just about the entire year. I expect that to be a close match with Serena losing her first set of the tournament but winning the match in three sets. With Wozniacki/Peng, Shuai Peng has been playing great in this tournament but over her head (0 Grand Slam quarterfinals prior to this U.S. Open and she's also never been past the quarterfinals in any Premier Mandatory or Premier 5 event - the equivalent of the Masters 1000 events for the women), and Wozniacki has played noticeably better over the last few months (i.e. since she broke up with Rory McIlroy), more like the top 5 player she once was. I'd predict a straight sets victory for Wozniacki.

Lots of disrespect for Peng, who has been flawless all the way into the Semis. Racism???

More like the 28 year old Peng has never gotten past the 4th round of any Grand Slam prior to this U.S. Open and never gotten past the quarterfinals of any Masters 1000 women's equivalent event. She's had a great run, but Wozniacki is a better player and has been playing great herself not only in this tournament but for the last two months; she just destroyed a good player in Sara Errani 6-0 6-1 in her last match.
Caroline Wozniacki through to her 2nd USO Final, Peng having to retire in the 2nd set.
Hopefully she can win it, and not continue to be one of the best female players never to win a Slam.
anti-climatic day of tennis with the injury/illness withdrawal in the Wozniacki match and Serena's dominating win......looking foward to the men's semis, finals, and women finals in the next few days
