After years of battling Diabetes, Renal Failure (on dialysis) and Hypertension, James "KAMALA" Harris passed away earlier this week. Known in the Pr Wrestling business as "KAMALA THE UGANDAN GIANT" this former Mississippi Sharecropper went to great lengths to characterize himself as a Wildman from the jungles of Uganda.

I have a signed copy of his book. It is sad that he, like most professional wrestlers, made so little money for the time he put into his career. The fact that he kept his size near the 400 pound mark put a strain on his body, causing him to develop Diabetes, high blood pressure, kidney failure, even lose his legs. I spoke with him online a few times and watched his interviews. he was a great guy in real life, a nice ,cordial individual who wanted the fans to remember him for his act in the ring and his entertainment he brought to the crowd, NOT for the man he was in the wheelchair and too frail to do much else.

Seemed like a class act in his adult days after a troubled youth. He made a great turnaround in his life to become an accomplished wrestler with many fans. Seems like only good things are said about this man in and out of the ring. Very sad. I got to know him as a wrestling fan when I watched the promotions from the Undertaker leading up to their casket matches. The WWE lost a good one for sure.

Yep, he will be missed. He had CORONAVIRUS, he had to have DIALYSIS, that with his other problems stacked the odds against him at age 70.
I can say that while KAMALA the wrestler was a great concept, it was James Harris who made it happen, and yes, class act all the way.

The primary active years of his career was just around a decade. His largest year must have been '92 when he had programs with Ultimate Warrior and Undertaker. Kamala was never a major draw and was never able to maintain a consistent run in promotions that had pay day potential. Given the relatively short prime of his career he didn't have the nest egg that other guys were able to build. By all accounts he was a great guy and it was sad to know how rough the last decade was for him. RIP Mr. Harris.

I found this article and wanted to repost it here.

It talks about his character development and later hardships and how he wanted to be thought of as "uplifting"
