We see this with Peyton Manning. Tons of records, SB ring, but yet he often seems to underperform against Tom Brady and the Pats. In tennis, Roger Federer dominated the field for much of his prime, but was dominated by Nadal consistently. Can you be considered the GOAT if there's someone else out there who can completely dominate you?
Yes, H2H is only one part of the equation.
In many ways the Fedal rivalry mimics that of Connors-Lendl, although Fedal probably more comprehensive and less skewed to the book-ends of the respective careers, and a slightly bigger age gap.
Connors landing initial mortal blows on Lendl, esp the 1982-3 USO Finals, before Lendl running away with it at the end.
Final result, Lendl 22 - Connors 13. (currently Nadal-Fed is 23-10).
1. Nadal doesn't "dominate" Federer in their head to head.
2. It's not fault Nadal is a clay-court specialist (or was for 3/4 of the tennis career) and Federer always reached the finals
3. Federer has the most grand slams, weeks at no. 1, 23 consecutive grand slam finals.
Go away, Dull tard. Nadal is a butt-picking, steroid-using, talentless, moonball-hitting, pushing, cheating, MUG.
I just don't understand why.. especially in football.. that the emphasis is so much put on the QB and it's QB vs. QB.....
Eli Manning is nothing special but he has 2 SB rings and 2 SB MVP's... still doesn't make him better than his brother. Guys like Peyton can transform awful teams into contenders and average offensive players into stars. Brady is the same way...
However, how is it Peyton's fault when the defense gives up 42 points? A QB can only do so much when he's playing the entire game from behind and his defense can't stop the other teams offense.
Head to head is only a tiny part of the story....especially in team sports. For example, let's say Dominique Wilkins could beat Larry Bird one-on-one 9 out of 10 times...does that make Wilkins the better basketball player? What if we also said Wilkins and the Hawks beat the Celtics 70% of the time? It doesn't matter.
Being good is more about how you perform against everyone instead of one player who may be able to take advantage of your weaknesses like no one else can. If two players have a body of work that is about equal, than yes, head-to-head results may be something to look at.
One of those 10 losses was to the Miami Heat....where Rex Chapman lit up Michael Jordan like a Christmas tree one night.
He was 9-10 from 3-point range.
The only comparison would be those one on one sports like you mentioned with Tennis.. You can't say Brady dominated Manning or any other QB because BRADY is not on the field when his opposing QB is. They Don't play against each other, they play against the other teams defense. If you use that pretense, then Peyton's little brother Eli dominated Brady because he beat him in 2 Super Bowls, when in reality it was Eli's defensive teammates that dominated Brady and the Pats offense, Eli had nothing to do with how good or bad Brady did in those 2 games.
If you want to say Brady is better than Manning and any other QB that every lived, so be it you certainly have a great argument but Brady never dominated another QB EVER..... Seriously!
