I only mod the two football sub forums but thought I would opine here.

For the record, I looked at post activity for the various sub forums. Here's the page count:

MMA-16
Boxing-21
Auto Racing-23
Soccer-27
College Football-35
Basketball-59
Baseball-60
Pro Football-84

Like Ghenghis and BrianH states, posting activity is key and what counts as much as activity (newly created threads) is the content of those threads which are important as well. I can't really say a lot as to the reasons why, but I believe admin. probably looks at MMA and Boxing is second guessing creating those subforums. Though not a hardcore fan, I certainly would be fine with golf as a sub forum myself. You need continuous posting activity to justify its creation. And those posts need content, content that can carry over to more threads. Threads that have good information and that can create debate, not threads that are created that have nothing to them.

I'll dm one of the senior mods. Hopefully he can add a little bit here.

I'd rather hit a tennis ball to another good player for a couple hours ... and get a real workout in the process...

There are 2 things you can do to get a forum created: one has already been mentioned by Double H and that's activity. You don't spam the forum with topics, but start a few interesting discussions, get people to participate - that sort of activity.
The second thing is posting about this in "About the forum" - creating new forums is up to Admin and while he leaves most of admin duties to the senior mods, he does read that forum.
That's the way it works.
Yac.
