I'm way behind you ( not by a lot ) as I have been around horses since a young age..I was one of those kids who loved the smell of a barn..LOL Anyway..My husband (RIP) was a jockey and exercised horses until his legs grew too long..So yes..Love of horses and racing is somehow embedded
Like yourself..Watched many past wonderful attempts plus those few triple wins..So Yes indeed this is historical..It's been a long drought for that coveted elevations of achievement in the horse racing world...But I just want to remind folks that Frosted did just as expected too..(Not sure if Frosted is a mare or not?) Since I love ALL horses..their smell..their heart and their nature!!!
Hope a whole load of folks made a whole load $$..tho would never advocate betting unless one can afford it
My uncle was a jocky as well. that is one reason I was almost born at Santa Anita. I think my parents were watching him ride that day or so the story goes.
Yes, I bet some people cleaned up yesterday. We won, I don't know about $4 or $5 something like that, but what fun. We are such heavy betters: we started betting on line last year for the derby. We put in $50 and that is about what we have left.

It was great to watch the historical Triple Crown win at the Belmont Stakes yesterday of American Pharoah! If this happens again only after 37 years then it is a once in lifetime in event for some people.
What a super thrill it was to follow the Triple Crown this year! American Pharoah proved so many of his doubters wrong in all three jewels: Kentucky Derby, Preakness, and Belmont Stakes!
AP went on to place himself, his jockey and trainer, Bob Baffert, into the history of horse racing!
In the 1970s I saw three triple crown winners within a few short years and certainly didn't think then it would take another 37 years to win after Affirmed in 1978. Great event. I hope it doesn't take another 37 years.
I liked the horse, but feared Frosted's closing power. Frosted proved to be the only true threat, and AP turned him away with ease. It was a magnificent race by a superb animal.
I guess this means we will never have a horse racing category on City Data
What would it take to get one?
Pharoah's owner says he will run again in 2015.
We have the Breeders Cup Classic this fall.
Many other good races between now and then.
At some point before next year the possible field for the 2016 Derby will be announced.

it seems horses are being bred so much differently today than in years gone by. I can remember when horses often ran twice in one week, certainly at least once and now they run once every 2 weeks or months. In fact isn't that the argument for spacing the 3 big spring races further apart. I think if they start spacing them over a longer period of time, a lot of people will lose interest. It would be like having the world series a month after the end of the season or between the playoffs and the super bowl having a month or longer break.
Many of us remember when we could hope for a triple crown winner and expect to see it happen., at least knew there was a chance. Not anymore or so it seems. It will be interesting to see what happens in the next 10 years.
Of course look at the break between Citation and Secrartariate. I have seen 5 winners that I can remember. If it takes 10 years or more for the next one, I will either be shaking hands with the guy who lives upstairs (hopefully anyway) or I will be too old to know what the heck everyone is talking about.

A new category may be popular.
More discussion. You and I have far and away the most posts on this thread. It will take a lot more than that to get City Data to add a horse racing sub forum.
Since there was no talk on this thread 3 days before the race until my post, that is what triggered the comment. There was only a few posters even discussing the race until after American Pharoah won the Triple Crown.
Please register to post and access all features of our very popular forum. It is free and quick. Over $68,000 in prizes has already been given out to active posters on our forum. Additional giveaways are planned.
