Nothing more sanctimonious and vindictive than a fat guy wearing a tweed jacket who calls himself a sports writer. They shouldn't decide who is worthy on unworthy of being inducted into their respective hall's of fame.
I don't disagree that players should be involved in the process. However, I disagree that the voting should be secluded to one particular group. I think hall of fame voting for any of the big four sports should be relegated to players, writers, managers, etc.... I have no idea how you get a vote as a writer but I would like to see some sort of criteria established for choosing players who would cast ballots for the HOF.
I see what your saying but would having former players vote for who should be inducted be better. What we don't need is a group of athletes voting for their former teammates and friends like what happened in the early 70's when Frank Frisch was the head of the Veterans Committee.
