My first instinct is to say basketball. However, the average height of a basketball player is 6'7 - perhaps there are 50 guys just as athletic as your average NBA player but at 5'5-5'10 they are simply at too big of a size disadvantage. That also makes me wonder how incredibly athletic the guys that are relatively small must be to play at that level. For example, Muggsy Bouges, Spud Webb, JJ Barea, Nate Robinson, Isiah Thomas, etc. There are millions upon millions of guys the same size (or bigger) that all play basketball yet only a handful make it. Is it crazy to think someone like Bouges is more athletic than Michael Jordan or almost any athlete in the world? A serviceable/good 5'3 NBA player is probably equivalent to a 5'8 NFL quarterback. Imagine how athletic someone would need to be as a decent 5'8 QB....would need super human speed/arm strength/decision making, etc.
Well, having witnessed Michael Jordan trying to play minor league baseball, I'm not so sure about this. He was an incredible natural athlete, but there were things he did that were just weird that made no sense in baseball.

Not sure just how much you witnessed MJ playing baseball, but considering his slow start he was doing pretty well towards the end. Enough where he would of moved up within the WS organization, and even his then manager Terry Francona said he would of had a good shot of making it all the way. Pretty remarkable for a guy that went the amount of years he did away from the diamond.

About ten games. You should have seen him trying to steal second. All arms and legs.
What sport do you think prepares you to be the the most physically and mentally fit for all athletic activity?
I used to get in these debates all the time. Usually beer is required. Anyway, I have always thought that an NFL defensive back has got to be a pretty good athlete. A Major League infielder would also have to be a good athlete. There are different ingredients in the two. A defensive back would be able to handle hard contact. An infielder would have to be able to hit a 95 MPH baseball, have a good throwing arm and agility in the field. If he could hit 30 home runs, that would make him about as an elite an athlete as there is.
Yeah why not, if I had to make a top 5 for the " individual sports" category it would be
1. Boxing
2. Gymnastics
3. Swimming
4. Motorsport
5. Tennis
Why motorsports? I'm not saying the car or motorcycle does all the work and I'm not saying that there's no exertion. But I just can't put a Formula 1 driver in the same league as an NFL defensive back, a pro tennis player, or Messi. Just can't.
