I was shocked when I found out that Tirico was leaving for NBC from ESPN. Now who's going to be the lead play-by-play announcer for Monday Night Football which is the question. Sean McDonough is one of the candidates. Chris Berman could be another but I doubt it though he calls the second MNF doubleheader game and has done this since 2012. No decision has been determined yet.
Tirico isn't the only one who came to NBC from ESPN and there were some others: Dan Patrick, Alex Flanagan, and Michele Tafoya and some NHL announcers and I don't know who. Al Michaels came from NBC from ABC though he never, nor John Madden, worked for ESPN.
Do y'all think Tirico is heading to NBC because he's primed to take over for Al Michaels if he retires?
Surprising move though. Hopefully this doesn't mean more Doris Burke for NBA on ESPN.
Tirico... Olympics... less work and travel on a regular basis... and probably the Michaels' gig as well. Don't overlook taking over for Costas as well.

''My Olympic road is closer to its end than its beginning,'' he said. ''By the time I can foresee prime-time changing radically, somebody else will be doing it.''
To millions of Americans, he's best known as the television face of the Olympic games but Bob Costas isn't sure for how much longer.
"I think we're on a case by case basis going forward," he says.
...
No matter what his career future holds, Costas says it will include baseball. There's still no job he'd rather have than one behind the microphone at a ballgame. Everything else, as he says, is on a case by case basis.
"After a while I think you should give younger people their turn like I got my turn," said Costas. "And get the heck out before they kick you out."

Oh, maybe it's because of his eye infection but I think it's a little to early for him to retire then.

I will be glad. I HATE his commentaries with a passion. He goes off-tangent far too often. He once even made the case that the Cowboys should be back in the Super Bowl just for marketing purposes. He's a total douchebag and I'll be glad when he retires.
