Watching Olympics beach volleyball. NBC did a split screen commercial break. Right side was commercial. Left side was slightly smaller but still showed the continuing game action. Would love to see this with more sporting events.

Question,…would enacting this method help baseball and football go faster? I’ve not been to a live Major League Baseball nor football game. Do they stop game play for commercial breaks? If so could this method eliminate those commercial breaks?

Yes they do stop play in professional football for commercial breaks.

I feel like the split screen just makes the action harder to see. And while "limited" action is better than no action, I'd prefer they just go to a different model like limited commercials. Broadcasts like The Masters have very little commercials (or none) as they simply get corporations to sponsor different segments.

I'm guessing it may not work for all sports. Or not necessary for sports may have more opportunities for commercials. e.g. NFL have TV timeouts, but they also have more stoppages that allow them to have commercials.

Absolutely HATE those goddamn obnoxious ads. I call 'em half-ads and when they first came out with these stupid things a few years ago I'm just sitting there like dog, are you kidding me? What in the hell is this goddamn mother-effin' bullshi t?? Totally obnoxious.

I hit the back button on the remote immediately.

They had to show ads or we would not be able to watch these shows for the price of basic cable. They do it in golf pretty regularly. While it's difficult to follow a ball in flight on the split screen it's better than cutting away totally and missing some of the action, even in a reduced capacity.

Yes, but there didn't even used to be half-ads.

Would you prefer they simply cut way for a full 2 minutes to at least allowing you to keep up with the action as the pimp All State and Miller Lite? I mean the ads have to stay, so this is our choice. I know which one I prefer.

I also like it too, although I think football tv ads should only be during each quarter. Hopefully a FCC rule could be passed. I think split screen ads make sense for continuous sports like soccer, Olympic sports where there aren't many natural stoppages.

They are doing commercials all wrong anyway. Instead of overpaying athletes or actors/actresses and trying to produce a vignette they should just pay the announcers in sports to say things like "boy a frosty Bud would sure go down good now" or "say, I sure am getting good wear on those Goodyear tires I have".
They could slide those sound bites in multiple times when there was a break in the action. Maybe show the play by play guy drinking out of a giant mug with "Folgers" in big red letters.
Commercials don't have to be so intrusive.

Except that AT&T girl with big hooters. Definitely keep her on.
