I was channel surfing to find a baseball game, and found Rafa's round of 16 match (didn't know it was on)
The 4th set was about to start.....and Rafa was down 2 sets to 1 .
Rafa broke to go up 3-1.
Then Tiafoe broke to 3-2.
Then Nadal had double break point (IIRC), but Tiafo held for 3 all.
Then Tiafoe broke to go up 4-3.
Tiafoe just served an ace to win the 8th game and is up 5-3......if he breaks or holds serve, he'll beat Rafa ( I love fellow Americans, but Rafa is my favorite pklayer).

Frances Tiafoe....the youngest American man, age 24, to reach the quarters at the U.S. Open since 2006, when Roddick did that at age 24.

Per ESPN, If both Alcaraz and Ruud lose before the final, the first post U.S. Open ranking will have Rafa at #1 in the world.

First time since 2000 that the 1 and 2 seeds in men's singles at the U.S. Open are out before the quarters.

I don't think he will win this year, but I can see him winning the US Open in the future. He's fun to watch.

Tell that to the nominal #2 seed at the US Open. Methinks that young lady would have wanted ANY wildcard entry except Serena, who did in fact beat her on that particular day.
Is there any 40 year man who could beat #2 seed Nadal, even on his worst day in a major tournament?

Not surprised by Tiafoe beating Nadal. If you just only watched tennis the last 6 weeks, there wasn’t much you’d see that would suggest a disparity in performance.
As for these organizers, these clowns shouldn’t be running even a lemonade stand. Eight matches. Two indoor courts. You start at 11 am. You knew the chances of rain were highly probable. To have those opening matches delayed twice, including to dry the court, showcases the incompetence. It’s asinine for these matches to always start way later than they should. Well after midnight on a weeknight local time? Good grief. Tennis is the only sport that I swear, intentionally wants to turn off the general public and not grow its brand.
