A New Year!
Another year of play to come.
Biggest news so far in 2022, Novak Djokovic has been given a medical exemption to play the AO.
Most other players have to be Covid double vaccinated.

But that has been put into doubt.

It certainly has been.
The Australian government have totally backflipped on what Tennis Australia has already agreed to.

Novak's mother has claimed that he's been subjected to torture by the Australian authorities. They should produce some evidence of this, as it's an outrageous claim, that if true, should have significant consequences.

Novak’s family often make outlandish claims and statements.
I am a fan of Novak Djokovic the tennis player, but not all of this other stuff that goes on.

AO boss Craig Tiley should be replaced. The health department sent him 2 letters in November saying that having covid within 6 months was not grounds for an exemption. Tiley never shared those letters with the players, so they were under the impression that having covid within 6 months was worthy of an exemption (as that was the rule prior to November). Also, Djokovic should serve prison sentences in Spain and Serbia, because he broke the law in both those countries when being in public while being covid positive.

agreed, well, he's not going to jail but apparently he lied about travelling to Spain and if he was positive why did he show up mask-less a couple days later, at a public event in Serbia?
he either faked his test or simply doesn't care, either way he should be thrown out of the country immediately on those grounds alone. Forget the Visa issue and any potential medical exemptions.
I've seen multiple videos of how the average citizen in Australia has been treated over covid, there's no way this guy should be allowed in.

I think jailing Djokovic would be over the top, but if he isn't following the rules and isn't acting in good faith, kicking him out of Australia (basically kicking him out of the tournament) seems proportional.

When he goes back to Serbia, he'll be fined or jailed, but everybody knows a fine is pointless, so jail is the logical option. How else will he ever learn his lesson?

Serbia’s Prime Minister Ana Brnabic has slammed Novak Djokovic for a “clear violation” of his COVID-19 isolation requirements.
“No one is allowed to breach the isolation rules as it, therefore, puts the health of other people in jeopardy,” Ms Brnabic said.
“There are some standards that have to be met.
“In this case it seems to me that if he was aware of it then it is a clear violation of the rules – and what the sanctions are that’s what relevant institutions will have to look into.”

It's now about 5 AM Central time in the U.S. on Sunday Jan 16, 2022.
About an hour ago I read this:
https://sports.yahoo.com/novak-djoko...073424821.html
Djokovic's second appeal has been denied in court, and he will be leaving Australia and not playing in the 2022 Australian Open.
There was some previous speculation that if this happened that he wouldn't be able to play in this tournament for three years.
The link above doesn't address that.
