I especially get a charge out of watching some of the snowboard competitions because my friend's son maintains Shaun White's and Chloe Kim's boards, as well as others. He tunes and waxes the boards. He travels the world with them for their competitions, and he's one of the people you see with Shaun and Chloe at the top of the hill, right before they start their runs. Kind of neat to see "Kenny" up there.

I did see the snowboard win yesterday. Last few days, I've been watching curling on CNBC. A friend, longtime curler, invited me to join a local group about 20 years ago at age 60 - all was well for a few weeks until I slipped, fell on left elbow, broke it. I was limber enough and strong enough to do the squats - which today would be impossible. My son always said he thought I was nuts to try "bowling on ice." Being very tall doesn't help, center of gravity much better in those shorter. Past few weeks, that elbow has really been bothering me -warned this might happen as I age. No reminders of that break until recently.

Be that as it may, I'm enjoying the curling. GBR team (mostly Scotsman where curling originated) just beat China. Nice quiet game.

Now the ice hockey begins.

Anybody likes the time zone of this Olympics? I personally prefer Europe's or North America's so I don't have to sleep in during much of competition and have to watch the replays and highlights.

Russian skater Kamila Valieva is cleared to compete after failing a drug test. Apparently Russian athletes can dope without consequence whatsoever. Competing and still winning gold medals under the ROC banner was no punishment. And neither is this. What message does this send?

Watching women's freestyle skiing. I skied a little (very little) back in the day - course sounds very icy. Scary. Is this ice what they want? Now, they're saying it's b/c of the cold. I see these falls and cringe. Continuing to watch curling. Enjoying it. Re times of broadcast, I never get up b/4 noon CST, go to bed at 3 a.m. - timing of the broadcasts is fine with me.

I haven’t been watching the Olympics. A few minutes of team luge when an English Premier League match I was streaming on USA Network ended and it cut to some luge stuff. I’m done with Olympics forever. “I must have taken my grandfather’s Rx”. This is ridiculous.

In large hill Nordic Combined, in the race portion the Norwegian leader lost concentration and turned on a wrong lane - he had to ski back and turn back on the right lane. Lost a lot of momentum and the chase pack caught up with him. He lost the chance of a medal to his fellow countryman. Must have been the cold, it was -19C the coldest so far and was only one degree above the threshold for cancellation of a race because of the cold.

Let's see, let me give it a shot. That the IOC is corrupt and bribable? How else would China get awarded the Olympics in the first place so soon after having hosted it before DESPITE the myriad of human rights offenses and all the athletes having to be monitored like prisoners. Does anyone think that Russia didn't also pull a deal with these same IOC leaders to clear their drugged up skater?
