I was going to put this in college football but all college athletes are making money off of these deals. Some are making more than others. Point being. This is new frontier. Will the NCAA start putting restrictions on these deals? Anyone's guess. Just to start things off I found this article pertaining to EA Sports College Football game coming out soon.
In May, On3's Pete Nakos reported that the combined compensation for players who opt into the video game is expected to be roughly $5 million. That equates to roughly $500 per player. So, what is fair compensation for FBS players if there's a flat rate?
That's a fair question. I believe it should be a percentage of sales instead of a flat rate. I am not an agent but if I had a client, that's what I would be fighting for.
Here's an argument for the flat rate:
"That's a tough one," Oklahoma quarterback General Booty told On3 at the INFLCR NIL Summit. "We've actually been talking about that in the locker room. So, we've all talked about it because we want the game to come out, obviously. But we were saying if they come out and try to lowball and say we want to give everyone $200. Well, guys maybe like, like you mentioned Caleb Williams, may say no and then he's not in the game. Then all the USC fans - who wants to buy the game and not play with him, you know?
"And then he does it, then someone else does it and then it's a domino effect and then it's ruined. So, I think that's going to be very critical to how they put it together. They are going to have to have one price, and I say like $600 to $800 would get everyone in. But some of the big guys, you know, that deserve it, that have been playing, starting for a couple years, put up the numbers, they may have to sit down and negotiate with them because that's going to ruin the game if they don't have some of these star guys in there."
That's why I think it should be a percentage of sales. Too many variables if you stick with a flat rate although that would be easier for EA Sports. There is more to peruse in this article. The stars would probably want more than the average college player since they are the known commodity. Which makes sense. Again this is new frontier.

It is getting harder to recruit basketball players to Kentucky because of Coach Cal's disconnect with boosters/NIL which is an eye opener with me. Especially how successful the program has been until recently.
The biggest topic in college athletics right now is NIL, as it is playing a massive role in where players are deciding to transfer to. Jones said that John Calipari does not have a relationship with the program’s biggest boosters and that is causing the program to fall behind. “Players come and go; that worries me less than the other stuff. And again, if people don’t want to believe this, they don’t have to but this is the truth: Calipari has no connection with the main boosters of this program, specifically the main couple and it’s killing us. It just is. The people around the program can’t talk to him; they don’t know what to say to him. And he is completely isolated from everybody.”
On Wednesday, Calipari and Kentucky’s athletics director Mitch Barnhart made a trip to Washington D.C. to push for NIL legislation. Jones noted that this was a step in the right direction.
“I was happy to see the picture of him and Mitch in Washington. I’m glad that happened. Maybe that’s the start of things getting better there. But it is not a secret to anybody that he has not had a relationship with Mitch. He does not have a relationship with the boosters. He does not have a relationship with the media. And a lot of the folks that have worked there in the last year or two have either gone or are about to go.”

A 9-year old from Snoop Dogg's Youth Football League has landed a six-figure name, image and likeness (NIL) deal with a sports agency, becoming the first person from the youth league to do so at such a young age. Ghalee Wadood Jr's father, Ghalee Wadood Sr., shared the news with KTLA describing his son as a "standout 9-year old athlete who excels in football, baseball, track and karate."
Sens. Joe Manchin (D--W.Va.) and Tommy Tuberville (R-Ala.) unveiled legislation Tuesday that would establish a national standard for the handling of college athletes' name, image and likeness (NIL), two years after the Supreme Court decided the NCAA's rules restricting certain student-athlete compensation were illegal. The "Protecting Athletes, Schools and Sports Act" would require that collectives and boosters be affiliated with a college or school, prohibit inducements and give the NCAA the authority to prohibit certain NIL agreements, including those that would "involve alcohol, drugs, or conflict with existing school and conference licenses."
On one hand there needs to be some controls in place. OTOH, this reeks of big gubment and the almighty NCAA sticking their nose in where it doesn't belong so they can control things. IMHO, I am ambivalent about this turn of events.

So I'm not sure the 'attention' she brings to gymnastics is one the sport wants to encourage i.e. gymnastics being seen as an outlet for horny men to watch young girls bend their bodies in skimpy outfits.
But it is one of those interesting, perhaps not quite foreseen, consequences of NIL that attractive female athletes in marginal sports can generate a lot of revenue if they're happy to show off their bodies.

LSU gymnast Olivia Dunne’s presence in Salt Lake City ignited a scary scene at the Tigers’ season opener against Utah on Friday. Dunne, who is one of the highest-paid NIL athletes with millions of followers on social media, was greeted by eager fans at the Jon M. Huntsman Center, where a crowd of screaming teenage males stayed after Utah defeated LSU to see Dunne exit the venue. Former Olympic gymnast Samantha Peszek, who currently works as a Los Angeles-based broadcaster, shared a video of the crowd demanding Dunne’s whereabouts as people left the gymnastics meet. “This is actually so scary and disturbing and cringey. I’m embarrassed for them…,” Peszek wrote over the clip, which was initially shared on her TikTok account. “Give us Livvy,” one person can be heard yelling after a “Livvy” chant broke out. “We want Livvy,” others screamed.

Gotta admit, the girl is a walking billboard. Therein lies the negative side which all celebs have to deal with when they gain notoriety.

The "Olivia Dunne of college swimming" is continuing to build up her social media following. This weekend, Andreea Dragoi, a swimmer at San Jose State University in California, walked at New York Swim Week. The NCAA swimmer is sure to continue to build up her social media following from here. "She hit the streets of Miami in June with model mom Lucy, showed off her crazy workout skills ahead of Fourth of July, and just recently got back from a big Greece vacation," Outkick wrote.
There is always going to be the "Olivia Dunne of_______" . In any sport you can think of to fil in the blank. It seems that's where all the female athletes direction is going to make a buck. I see no problem with it. Yes, I am a male. Sue me.
