With the Oriole's and the Raven's records lately, Phelps is great news for Baltimore.
what about the USA he is great news for all of us
And the sport of swimming i am a swimmer and no one cares about are sport only now when he is winning all these medals
Sorry about your loss. With the seriousness of DWI, I just really don't know how we could allow someone to come back an represent our country on the global stage. It seems that everyone is up in arms about these Chinese gymnasts who are slightly under the required age to compete when, really, I think what Phelps did 4 years ago is more serious than this current "scandal."
And Phelps more then made up for his stupid mistake that most everyone has done at one time or another. The Chinese are CHEATING, is that OK with you? Phelps publicly apologized, lectured HS kids and appeared at MADD meetings. What would you suggest, cut the webbing from between his toes?
How quickly we forget that just a few years ago he got an underage DWI. I personally don't think anyone who does something as ridiculous and dangerous as driving under the influence should be allowed to represent our country in the Olympics. The fact that he obviously abuses(ed) alcohol makes me wonder if he's using some other substance now to enhance his performance. I certainly hope not.
I understand that we all make mistakes. However, it seems to me that when you're in the postion of representing your entire country to the world that the standards for behavior should be held very high.
He was basically a child. It was a terrible mistake, are people not allowed those these days? Fortunately, no one was hurt and he seems to be making amends. Heck, considering our president had a DUI conviction, I think it would be a little silly to ban a swimmer from competing because of one.
