Rj

To clarify. What is their motivation?

So much for countries that display humanity and compassion for people. I cant wait to see the headline Olympics awarded to Sudan or heck lets have them in Myanmar. China takes kids out of their homes at age THREE to train them for the Olympics, they beat and imprison anyone who voices a public opinion against them. When their gymnasts aren't good enough they cheat so younger ones can win, yea this is the true spirit of the games.

It's hardly new. The 1936 Games were held in Germany, which gave Adolf Hitler a pretty good stage to strut in front of the whole world. This year it was China. Perhaps Iran will submit a bid next!

Huh? The U.S. was a global power long before 1996, and who considers Spain a global power today? Maybe in the 1600s, but not today. And when did South Korea become a global power?

I didn't see nearly as much national pride and reputation tied up in the 1988, 1992 or 1996 Olympics as I've seen at these Olympics. Particularly in 1992 and 1996, the Olympics were a lot more about the host city than the nation in which they were held.

Good point, but then again the U.S. has it's own sordid history showing lack of humanity and compassion. What country wears a halo and plays the harp?

When Native American Jim Thorpe won both the decathlon and the pentathlon in 1912, Native Americans were not even allowed to vote. Guess our native-american-ness did not warrant citizenship back then.

YOU can go through these threads and find each and every poster who equates this Olympics to the Nazi Olympics.

These are the "many". I will not waste my time searching for the obvious.

Jeez. Look at the post just before yours. Post No. 13. How could you even ask such a question?

I was waiting for this to be brought up. I think we in the 1900's with all of our problems were still better than China today.
