The other three longtime major pro teams all have their year-in-year-out hardcore fans. Which one gets the most attention, by a fanbase beyond the hardcore and by media, depends on who is winning at the time, and who captures the public's attention for whatever reason. In the early '70's, the Bruins were the toast of the town for a few years, even temporarily rivaling the Sox in popularity. In the '80's, the Celtics were big, and in recent years the Patriots have had a lot of interest.
Otherwise, not a lot of widespread interest in MLS, and only a little bit of interest here and there in college sports, mostly if a local team is having a season where they make a mark on the national level. The couple of times in recent decades when B.C.'s football team has been ranked in the top ten, they've stirred some interest, especially during Doug Flutie's senior year, and there will be a certain degree of enthusiasm if one of the college hockey teams is contending for a national title, but overall, Boston is decidedly a pro sports town.
