While the WWE has become a complete freakshow that I really do not watch anymore, historically Pro Wrestling is a sport. It may not be on the up and up, but it is a sport nonetheless. It is Athletic theatre. The people involved even to this day have impressive greco wrestling credentials. Maybe not like in years past, but they still do. The late Jack Brisco was an NCAA Champion at Oklahoma State in the 50's as well as Bob Backlund at North Dakota State in the 60's. More recently Kurt Angle from Pittsburgh is an Olympic Gold Medalist. Professional wrestling is like Ballet. I hate to quote Mcmahon, but it is indeed Sports Entertainment. This thread needs more wrestling post!

I think it's definitely Hogan, hands down. This guy is a legend and wrestling fan or not...he'd be pretty easy to identify. However, I could recognize former wwe diva Maria Kanellis from a mile away.

How does The Big Show make this list over Andre the Giant, Roddy Piper, Sting, Ultimate Warrior, Ricky Steamboat, Randy Savage or any number of others?

Old thread but okay

Since it seems we are talking about WWF/WWE Entertainment style wrestling

Most over 40 or so would say Andre The Giant or Hogan

We are talking "most famous" here.

You can't really say that. If you asked everyone who watches or watched previously based on everything, Hogan or Andre would still be on top.

An early teen of younger would have never watched Andre or Hogan live.

Never watched the match where Hogan had to lift Andre and back slam him without killing or seriously injuring himself or Andre(Andre was in serious pain and injured at the time).

That was one of the Wrestlemanias. On the specials they are constantly playing old footage of Hulk and Andre not just from Wrestlemania. People who used to watch never would have known a John Cena or maybe even The Rock.
