Every couple of months some stupid publication comes out with their stupid criteria to determine "best sports city." These lists decide nothing as the OP would suggest. Besides, if you read as far as the first paragraph that should tell you all you need to know.

Quote:
It is the 16th year the magazine has issued its Best Sports Cities rankings and the first time Pittsburgh was so anointed, largely because of the dual Steelers and Penguins championships.

Yeah, I mean, because its not like the Pitt fans aren't already REALLY vocal on this website and it's not like their teams have won a lot lately, lets let them stroke each others egos more in yet another thread, that is based in pretend land. You're right, what was I thinking?

Any city with the Pittsburgh Pirates can not possibly win a legitimate best sports city award.

Didn't that same crap publication once proclaim Atlanta the best "sports city" in America too?

I will give Pit all the credit in the world for having some of the most rabid and supportive football fans out there. Sadly, they seem to have all left Pittsburgh at migrated to warmer places. I'm quite sure they outnumber Chargers fans in San Diego, and whenever they played in Jacksonville, it was practically a home game.

I agree, though - any city that 1) Has the Pirates and 2) Has no NBA team cannot really be the top sports city. I doubt people in the Burgh care - the Steelers are defending champs!

When you have 2 major sports teams winning world champions, it's hard to be humble!

Don't forget about the Penguins--defending champs of the Stanley Cup!

Actually, the fact that we have no NBA team and the poor Pirates brought our score down. They factored that all in!

I lived in the 'Burgh in the early 70's when the Steelers sucked and Pirates were winning World Series and nobody cared about them then either.

Its the Steelers town. Always has been, always will be.
