Wanted to add....sorry my first post in this thread was a "downer". I'm excited about this year's Olympics. I tend to favor the winter sports over the summer games.

My favorites are the XC ski races and speed skating (both long and short track).

In more light-hearted news, did everyone see the pics of the lynx on the ski course?

I hope they can pull together and stay too. I think staying, and competing, is the best way to honor his memory, as hard as that may be. I say that as an athlete myself. It's what I would want my friends and teammates to do.

Did you catch this:

Quote:
Kumaritashvili's crash occurred at the fastest part of the track, which steeply declines for 152 meters, making it the world's longest luge drop. This is the third crash there in the last two days
Yikes. I wonder if they need to tweak the course a bit?

I'm watching the opening ceremonies and the Georgian team was there (the standing ovation from the crowd was quite touching). The Olympics restore my faith in humanity.

They showed his crash on the ABC Nightly News. I wish I had not seen it, I believe it will take a long time to erase that from my memory. I hope his friends and family never have to see it.
