If you are young and childless I encourage you to look at the loft apartments in Springfield. My wife and I moved here from MS, and always say if we did not have our daughter that would be the place we would want to live. I live in some apartments off North Glenstone called Coryell courts. They are nice. but from where I live it is probably close to an hour to Branson. Not a hard drive you just have to remember IF you are from the Deep South like me and not use to driving in snow that will be something you have to deal with in a couple of months.
I do not know about Branson or roads going to Branson but the city was pretty good about getting roads in Springfield cleared of snow last winter.

Where are you coming from?

I'm actually surprised that you were told that Nixa and Ozark are not welcoming to "outsiders". Both towns have grown so much (Nixa more so than Ozark) that I can't imagine this being true. They are large enough that no one would even know who to label as an "outsider". With your budget of $1000/month, you will be able to find a nice home in a good neighborhood. Both towns are nice, but Nixa has more to do and is bigger. Have you looked on Craigslist for rentals? I knew of someone that had their 2200 square foot home (on a quiet cul-de-sac) in a great neighborhood listed for $1150/month....it's now rented, but it kind of gives you and idea of what's out there. As for neighborhoods in Nixa: The Springs, The Columns, Maplewood Hills, Spring Manor, Wasson, Tiffany Highlands....these are just a few that come to mind. You can look at www.patrickmurney.com to get a list of other neighborhoods or Google it.

Good luck with your move!
