Hello everyone! I am new to these forums and will be moving to the area soon. I really do not know much at all about Southern Missouri and am looking for some advice on the best area to live in to commute to Branson. I will be moving for a job that I have already accepted. I would like to live in a safe, younger, diverse community (attitudes/people). I am very accepting and laid back. I am looking for a safe neighborhood, of course. I am looking to live near other young professionals and am excited to meet some new people. Any advise would be greatly appreciated. Thank-you!

I live in Ozark and love it here, but it is more geared towards family life than single professionals. Nixa has more in the way of restaurants and shopping. Springfield has some great neighborhoods....the downtown is being revitalized and there are some wonderful apartment complexes/lofts there. If you are looking for more of a neighborhood/subdivision feel, take your pick. If I knew your price range for housing, I could be more specific.

Default thanks for the reply:)

My price range is about 1000 or less, but I'd rather be safe and comfortable than save. I would very much appreciate the neighborhood feel to a community, but am a little concerned about a few posts I have read about outsiders not being welcome. I have considered Springfield, but would like to cut my commute back to 30-40 minutes to Branson if possible. I appreciate your help.

Nixa and Ozark are two of the fastest-growing communities in Missouri for the last ten years so they are used to seeing new faces and the diversity has really improved. You can find very nice rental houses and apartments in both communities for that price range. I would check the Springfield Craigslist and start comparing houses in both towns and see what has a better feel. I have a suspicion that Nixa will have more to offer you simply because they do have a better business base.

I live in Nixa and like it, but would say avoid Spring Valley condos. There is a non-refundable $250 cleaning deposit they spring on you as a surprise. It takes forever and multiple requests to get something taken care of by maintenance. Also, there are plenty of large dogs and noone picks up after them. It gets really disgusting, especially in winter, when the droppings sit there along the curb in great piles. You don't dare step off the concrete anywhere. They put out a flyer telling people to pick up after their pets, but I have seen staff members walking their dogs and not picking up after them.

I would recommend South Eastern Springfield or Branson itself, (since that is where you will be working).
Nixa and Ozark are pretty small towns and are more family oriented. Not somewhere I would live if I were single.
Young and diverse really only fits areas of Springfield, from my observations.

Thanks for the information on Spring Valley condos! I am young, but not single (recently engaged). We decided on Nixa/Ozark area due to the close proximity to amenities in Springfield and younger population in Springfield. Also, we figured this would not be too bad of a commute to Branson. Trying to get a little of the best of both worlds!
