We are thinking about moving to the Springfield area and need to know how the economy is doing there? My husband works in Auto Body and would like to know he could get a job. My daughter will be wanting to enroll in college for Accounting in Fall 2012. We heard the southern part of Springfield is nice and would like to live close enough to work in town, yet live in the country, yet dont even know of any areas to look into living. Any suggestions or help would be greatly beneficial, we cant plan a trip down there for a while and need info ASAP. Thanks

First off I don't live there, so have no real first hand knowledge but having visited last month and reading through the newspapers it seems that if your moving and looking for work, but want the area you might go a little further south to North West Arkansas. Looking through the newspaper in that area, you will see a ton of help wanted adds.

The southwest and southeast sides are both very good. I personally live just outside city limits in SW Greene County.....I can be anywhere in town within a short time (half hour at the height of traffic, and that is to get all the way across town). It doesn't take long to be in "the country" once you get outside of city limits. Where are you moving from? That might help a little with the price range/cost of living difference I can tell you to expect.

I live in Northeast Missouri and the jobs are not plentiful and the town is not large. An average secretary job with a two year degree would only pay $8 to $8.25 an hour starting out. We own 50 acres, total of 5 car garage, new modular with a wrap around porch and our total taxes yearly personal and property are $1200.00 or so.
